C.G. Conn 6M VIII Alto Saxophone with Naked Lady 1937 Serial #278540
Description
This C.G. Conn 6M VIII alto saxophone with Naked Lady full-bust engraving has 80-85% of the lacquer finish remaining. There is some light evidence of bell removal in the bottom bow and a very small ding in the middle of the bottom bow guard. There is some light evidence of dent removal in the bell. The neck ring hook shows signs of a re-solder. Please see the pictures for details. The serial number is "278540" making this a vintage 1937 horn. The engraving on the bell reads “Made-By C.G. Conn LTD. Elkhart-Ind. U.S.A.” with the Naked Lady cleavage engraving. On the back of the saxophone near the serial number is engraved “6M VIII PAT.APP’D FOR A 278540 L”. The engraved letter “L” below the serial number denotes that the horn is in low pitch. Until the mid-1940s, Conn made both high and low-pitched horns. The neck also has “VIII” engraved on it. This saxophone has rolled tone holes, a double sleeve/socket style neck, an underslung octave key, and a micro tuner neck. The neck is in very good condition with a few light dings. The tenon was resoldered at some point and then the lacquer was touched up. It is the original neck but the color is slightly different because the two lacquers have aged differently. The body is the original very rich dark brown Conn lacquer. A few spots on the neck were raw brass and the spots around the tenon were buffed so they could solder and then over lacquered the entire neck giving it that slightly different color. Please see the pictures for details. It comes in anew replacement case. No mouthpiece is included.
