Description
This SML Strasser Marigaux baritone saxophone is in very good condition with 80-85% of the original lacquer finish remaining. There is speckled lacquer wear throughout. This type of lacquer wear is known as speckled or crazing, it is iconic to Bueschers and SMLs. It is a characteristic of the lacquer not a water/red rot problem. This is just surface lacquer wear. The bottom bow has a very minor ding on the facing side of the bow near the bow guard. The center of the bottom bow guard has just barely been pushed in. There is a very minor ding at the bottom of the bell on the leg side. Please see pictures for details. The serial number appears at the bottom of the body under the thumb rest and reads “16282” making this a vintage 1958 saxophone. The engraving on the bell reads “SML Strasser Marigaux 144.146 Boul. De LaVillette Paris France” with floral engraving up the bell. The neck has the same speckled lacquer wear as the horn. It is in great condition and has a tiny ding at the top of the neck that is easier to feel than to see. This baritone saxophone comes in a brand-new MTS wheel case. No mouthpiece is included. This saxophone plays extremely well up and down the register. Intonation is spot on and it plays very similar to a Selmer Mark VI as Strasser Marigaux worked for Selmer and spun off their own company.
