This Selmer Super Balanced Action Silver Alto Saxophone 1950’s Serial #44957 is in fantastic condition with 95% of the original silver plating. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned, adjusted and repadded so it plays wonderfully. There is very light player wear across the horn with only a little noticeable plating wear on one spot of the key guards. There is also one tiny ding on the back of the bell, and one on the bow. Please see the photos for more details. Other than that there are not any major dents in the saxophone or evidence of major repairs. The serial number is 44957 making this a 1950-51 vintage alto saxophone. Above the serial number is engraved “Made in France Brev. S.G.D.G. No. 383.098 ENGL PAT No 11.824”. The engraving on the bell reads “Brevete France & Etranger” then “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves and finally, the words “Sole Agents US & CAN Selmer New York Elkhart Made in France Kasper Wicky Geneve.” It comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck in great condition with no evidence of a pulldown. This sax also comes in a new Selmer case. No mouthpiece is included. This saxophone really sounds beautiful.
Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions and early Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of Saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. Check out the video below to hear this saxophone.
