This Selmer Super Balanced Action Silver Alto Saxophone 1949 Serial #38559 is in mint condition with 99% of the original silver plating. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned, adjusted and repadded so it plays beautifully. There is almost no player wear on the horn at all. It looks like it was never played. Besides one minor dent in the bow, there are no other dents in the saxophone or evidence of repairs. The serial number is 38559 making this a 1949 vintage alto saxophone. Above the serial number is engraved “Made in France Brev. S.G.D.G. No. 383.098 ENGL PAT No 11.824”. The engraving on the bell reads “Breverte France & Etranger”, then “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves and finally, the words “Sole Agents US & CAN Selmer New York Elkhart Made in France” beneath. It comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck in great condition with no evidence of a pulldown. This sax also comes in a new replacement Selmer case. No mouthpiece is included. This saxophone really has a great sound.
Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions and early Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of Saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It’s really a matter of preference. Check out the video below to hear this saxophone.
