Description

This Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone is in great condition with 90-95% of the original lacquer.  This horn has had one post re-soldered and two key guard mounts re-soldered.  There are some dents in the bottom bow and bow guard.  This horn plays incredibly well!  Overall the horn faces up very nicely with the dark warm Selmer lacquer color. The serial number is “M180753” making this a 1970 vintage tenor saxophone. Above the serial number is engraved “Made in France Brev. S.G.D.G. 920653 U.S. PAT+ 2710558 U.S. PAT+ 2846917”. The engraving on the bell is gorgeous and super crisp and reads “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves and “Selmer Made in France” with the R trademark sign. Scrolling leaves surround the engraving and go down and around the bell. It has “Mark VI” engraved on the bottom bell ring. This tenor saxophone comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck with the Selmer “S” on the octave key.  It has the original neck with no sign of a pull-down but does show some general light player lacquer wear. Near the tone hole on the neck, there is a spot where there is more lacquer missing than on the rest of the neck. You cannot see it but you can feel that there was a dent removed at this spot. It comes in a good. used replacement case. No mouthpiece is included. This horn has great action. The intonation is good throughout the horn

Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions, and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. For this particular horn, we can tell you that it has that rich, dark, iconic Selmer sound. These are not Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. It has to be heard; it has to be felt.
