Description
This Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone is in great condition with 25-30% of the original lacquer and light player wear across the entire saxophone. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned, adjusted, and had any pads replaced that needed it so it plays amazing. This saxophone has almost no dents, or dings, and no evidence of major repairs. There is some very light evidence around the bell edge that there was a bell lip pull-down removal done and some key guards have been re-soldered. The serial number is “M94598” making this a 1961 vintage tenor saxophone. Above the serial number is engraved “Made in France Brev-SGDG- 920653 Eng. Pat. 632799 US. PAT. 2940640 US. PAT. 2710558”. The engraving on the bell is gorgeous and super crisp and reads “Brevete France & Etranger Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves and “Fabrique en France Par H. Selmer & Cie Place Dancort. Paris Selmer New-York. Elkhart London Made in France” with the R trademark sign. Scrolling leaves surround the engraving and go down and around the bell. This tenor saxophone comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck with the Selmer “S” on the octave key in good condition and very light evidence of pulldown. It also comes in a good, used replacement case. No mouthpiece is included.
Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions, and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. For this particular horn, we can tell you that it has that rich, dark, iconic Selmer sound. These are not Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. It has to be heard; it has to be felt.
