Description

This Selmer Mark VI silver tenor saxophone is in mint condition. It has been completely re-silver plated and looks gorgeous. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned, adjusted, and re-padded so it plays beautifully. There are no dents on the horn or evidence of any major repairs. The serial number is “M.71245” making this a 1957 vintage tenor saxophone. Above the serial number is engraved “Made in France Brev- SGDG- 920653 ENG. PAT. 632799 US. PAT. 2940640 US. PAT. 2710558”. The engraving on the bell is beautiful and crisp.  The words “Brevete France & Etranger” are engraved at the top of the bell followed by “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves. Engraved after that is “Fabrique en France par H. Selmer & Cie Place Dancourt. Paris Selmer New-York. Elkhart London Made in France” with the R trademark sign. All around the words are swirling leaves down the bell. “Mark VI” is engraved on the back of the body just above the left-hand thumb rest. The words “U.S. Patent Pending” and “U.S. PAT. No. 2.710.558” are on the band where the bow meets the body. This tenor saxophone comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck with the matching serial number. It is in great condition and has no evidence of a pull-down. It comes in a good used SKB replacement case.  No mouthpiece is included. Finding a Mark VI in mint condition is getting harder and harder each day do not miss your chance to own one today.

Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions, and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. For this particular horn, we can tell you that it has that rich, dark, iconic Selmer sound. These are not Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. It has to be heard; it has to be felt.
