Description
This Selmer Balanced Action silver tenor saxophone is in very good condition with 85-90% of the silver plating remaining. It has 80-85% of the key plating remaining with medium player wear to the touch spots. The bottom bow has some evidence of dent removal. There is a patch by the bottom thumb rest showing that this horn had been given lots of love. Please see the pictures for more details. The serial number is “35087” making this a 1947 vintage tenor saxophone. Above the serial number are the engraved words “Brev. S.G.D.G. No 383.098 ENGL. PAT. No 11.824”. The engraving on the bell is beautiful and crisp. The words “Brevete France & Etranger” are engraved at the top of the bell followed by “Henri Selmer Paris” engraved in laurel leaves with “Fabrique en France par H. Selmer & Cie Place Dancourt. Paris Sole. Agents U.S & Can. Selmer New-York. Elkhart Made in France”. This tenor saxophone comes with the original “H. Selmer Paris” neck in great condition and there is no evidence of a pulldown. It comes with a good used condition case. No mouthpiece is included.
Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions, and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. For this particular horn, we can tell you that it has that rich, dark, iconic Selmer sound. These are not Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. It has to be heard; it has to be felt. Check out the video below to hear this saxophone.
