Description

This Couesnon Bb/A Trumpet 1900’s Serial #23 was made in Paris, France and is in very good condition. It has been completely gone over, hand polished and there is only light to medium wear over the entire horn. There is a small patch on the back bow of the bell but otherwise no other damage. Please see the pictures for more details. The lacquer on this horn is mostly gone so we are consider this a raw brass restoration. This horn is both a Bb and A  as it can be changed via the rotor on the tuning slide. The artistry on this trumpet is beautiful, notice the double lipped bell. The engraving on the horn is crisp and clear. The bell engraving reads top to bottom: “Exposition Universelle De Paris” “1900” “Hors Concours Membre Du Jury” “Couesnon & Cie Fournisseurs De L’Armee 94 Rue D’Angouleme Paris Chateau-Thierry” below this is a “pineapple” with the number “23” and on the bottom are the words “American-Perfection”. Note that 1900 was the year of the Paris World Fair and “Exposition Universelle” translates as “World Expo” or “World Fair” and “Hors Concours Membre Du Jury” translates roughly as “out of competition member of the jury.” Thus the engraving on the bell indicates that this model (not necessarily this particular horn) was displayed at the 1900 Paris World Fair in Paris, France. An online search suggests that the number 23 in the “pineapple” is the year the trumpet was made and may not be the serial number as the same online search suggested that this horn is “pre-serial number”.  There is also an “N” and the word “France” engraved on the mouthpiece receiver. This trumpet comes in a replacement case in very good condition. No mouthpiece is included. This instrument has a clean clear voice with excellent pitch both on the Bb and the A side of the trumpet.
