Description
This is a beautiful Olds Recording Model trombone that is in exceptional condition! It just recently came back from the shop and is in fantastic playing condition. The slide is as smooth as butter! There are a handful of super tiny ping dents in the throat of the bell and the slide tip bumper that are hard to see but you can feel them. There is some light evidence of dent removal in the tuning slide bow that is hard to see but can be felt. There is some very light speckled wear on the edge of the bell. Please see pictures for details. The serial number is “44323” making this a 1949 vintage horn. The engraving on the bell is super crisp reading “Olds Recording Made by F.E. Olds & Son Los-Angeles Calif.” It comes in the original vintage Olds case which is still in good condition. An Olds 3 Mouthpiece is included.
The Olds company was founded by Brass making Legend, Frank Ellsworth (F.E.) Olds. Mr. Olds started his company in the very early 1900’s in Los Angeles, California producing primarily trombones for the professional level musician. Prior to WWII the Recording Model was developed and became an immediate hit with professional players worldwide. The Olds Recording was the finest small/mid bore trombone that Olds ever made. With a .495/.510 dual bore, these instruments feel like a small bore horn but put out the sound when it counts with a full rich tone. The proprietary ‘Rey-O-Loy’ alloy bell softens the timbre while accenting the responsiveness of the instrument.
This horn feels great in your hand. It has great sensitivity when you are playing quietly, and it very easily punches the sound out with a big open sound when you need to play loudly. The slide is super slick and responsive. Overall, this is a fantastic playing vintage professional trombone with a gorgeous tone!
