This Martin “The Martin” Magna Alto Saxophone is in excellent condition with 95% or more of the original lacquer and a gorgeous engraved bell. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned and adjusted, so it plays great. The pads are a mix of old and new all in great condition; the horn has the signature tapered Martin cut tone holes and an adjustable thumb rest. There is one tiny little ding in the bow, some player wear to the touch spots of the keys and very light player wear across the horn, but there is almost no lacquer wear on the bell. (Please see, photos for more details.)
The serial number is 212720 making this a 1961-62 vintage alto saxophone. The serial number can be found on both the back of the body and the neck. Above the serial number on the body is a simple, engraved coat of arms with the letters “RMC.” The engraving is gorgeous and runs down the entirety of the bell and onto the front of the bow with a raised silver cross below the engraved words. The words “The Martin Alto Elkhart IND-USA Magna” are featured prominently on the bell as well. This alto saxophone comes with the original “Button Lock” neck that has no evidence of a pull down with one spot of heavier lacquer wear. (Button Lock necks were made only for Martin’s pro-line saxophones.) It also comes in a replacement case in good condition. A mouthpiece is not included. If you’d like to purchase a mouthpiece, please visit our mouthpiece page for vintage and modern mouthpieces.
This Alto Saxophone has that iconic fat, dark “Magna” sound. Even at it’s softest, it’s got great resonance and fantastic intonation.
