Martin The Martin Alto Saxophone 1953 Serial #186223

Description

This Martin The Martin alto saxophone is in excellent condition with around 90% of the original lacquer and light speckle wear across the horn. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned and adjusted so it plays great. The pads on this alto saxophone are a mixture of older and newer and they are all in good condition. It also has the signature tapered Martin beveled tone holes, adjustable right-hand thumb hook, and a matching neck plug. There is light player wear to the touch spots. There are a few minor dings in the bow and it looks like there is some crazing starting in the lacquer wear on the leg side. The bell lip has evidence of pull down removal on the facing side of the horn. Please see the photos for more details. The serial number is “186223” making this a 1953 vintage alto saxophone. The serial number can be found on both the back of the body and the neck. Below the serial number on the back of the horn is “Des. Patent D-145889 Des. Patent D-145890 Des. Patent D-145891 Des. Patent D-145892 Patent 2, 425, 795 Patent 2, 425, 796”. The engraving on the bell is gorgeous and runs down the entirety of the bell and onto the front of the bow with the words “The Martin Alto. -Elkhart-IND-USA-” displayed prominently.  This alto saxophone comes with the original “button lock” neck that has no evidence of pull down. It also comes in the original Martin case in good used condition with wear throughout and part of the leather edging is missing. A mouthpiece is not included. This alto saxophone has the iconic, big, fat Martin sound. It has a beautiful resonance in both the lower and upper registers with crisp intonation.

Pad Condition: The pads are in combination of newer and older used condition.
Resonator Type: Rivet style.
The Neck: The neck has approximately 50-55% of the finish remaining with very light general wear (minor if any surface imperfections).
The Mouthpiece: No mouthpiece, ligature, or accessories are included.
The Case: Good used condition (General wear with some edge wear and visible surface scratches).
Engraving: The Martin Alto. -Elkhart-IND-USA- (on the bell).
