Description

This Martin Handcraft Committee II alto saxophone is in excellent condition with 80-85% of the original lacquer and light speckle wear across the horn. It has just come from the shop where it was cleaned and adjusted, so it plays great. The pads are a mixture of older and newer and all of them are in good condition. The horn has the signature tapered Martin beveled tone holes and an adjustable thumb rest. There are a couple of dings in the bow on the leg side and one very minor ding on the flair of the bell right before the bell ring on the bottom side. There is evidence of dent removal that you can feel along the body on the left-hand side of the bottom thumb rest and the lyre mount has been re-soldered to the body. Please see the photos for more details. The serial number is “133356” making this a vintage 1939 horn. The engraving on the back of the body reads “Martin Comm. II 133356 Low Pitch”. The serial number can be found on both the back of the body and the neck.  The engraving is gorgeous and runs down the entirety of the bell with a crown and rampant lion. The words “Martin Handcraft Elkhart-IND-USA” are featured clearly. This saxophone also has Martin’s signature bell brace with the words “Martin Handcraft Elkhart Ind.” engraved on it. It comes with the original neck that has no evidence of pull down and evidence that the octave key has been repaired. There is a very small dent on the side of the neck that is more felt than seen. The saxophone comes with a metal neck plug. It comes in a replacement case that is in very good condition.  No mouthpiece is included. This alto saxophone has a warm, big sound that is iconic in Martin horns. It plays beautifully in both the upper and lower register and has fantastic intonation.
