Description

This Huttl trumpet is in good condition with around 60% or more of the original lacquer and silver accents on the tuning slides. It has medium wear across the horn. There is evidence that several small dents were taken out of the bow of the body and bow of the tuning slide which resulted with re-solders evident at the braces.  There is some light lacquer burn on the brace from the main tuning slide to the bell on the bell side.  The top pull knob on the second valve tuning slide is a replacement and the third valve tuning slide is missing its pull knob.  The serial number on the horn can be found on the second valve casing and reads “13312”. The engraving on the bell is still crisp and reads “Made by Huttl regd Western Germany”. Huttl was originally based in Kraslice in what was formally Czechoslovakia but after WWII they moved to two plants, one in Western Germany and another in S. Wales, Great Britain. They continued to make instruments into the 1970’s. Without a published serial number list we can only date this horn somewhere between the 1950’s-1970’s. The trumpet comes in a replacement case, which is in very good condition.  No mouthpiece is included. Huttl never really caught on in the U.S. partly because their horns either had a fantastic sound or a bad sound. This is one of the “good” Huttl’s with a sound comparable to a great Conn but without the Conn price tag. As such it is a great buy either for a collector looking for a rare item or for a player looking for a great sounding horn.
