Description
This vintage Couesnon 3 valve flugelhorn is in very good condition. It has 95%+ of the lacquer remaining on the horn. It has a beautiful dark honey lacquer. There are a couple of player wear touch spots on the tubing leaving the third valve and the lead pipe from the pinky and the thumb. There is some typical player wear scratching through the bell and the bow. The brace from the third valve tuning slide to the bottom of the body looks to be a replacement as it is not a “duck foot” brace, as is the pinky hook brace. Please note there is a dent in the body just up from the water key and a couple of very minor dents in the body and the bell. The bell does have a very minor wave to it and there is light evidence of bell dent removal. Please see pictures for details. There is no serial number engraved on the flugelhorn that we could find. There is a “Z” engraved on the second valve casing below the second valve tuning slide. There is also “UZ” engraved on the lead pipe receiver. It is suggested that the “Z” on the valve casing/lead pipe were specific to a model/bore size, unfortunately because of a fire at the Couesnon factory all of that information including serial numbers/years of manufacturing were lost. The engraving on the bell reads “Couesnon Paris Made in France”. No mouthpiece is included. This horn comes in a good used condition case. The inner lock braces are missing and not included. This does mean the horn moves freely within the case, it will be packed well so it does not move around in shipping. This horn plays with a beautiful dark warm rich sound! It gives you that great smoky flugelhorn tone. The valves are nice and quick. The core sound of this flugelhorn is well balanced from top to bottom. The horn has a nice response and is a pleasure to play!
